An insight into the works at West Ruislip portal

The latest in our series of insights featuring staff involved in building Britain's new high-speed railway highlights the works at the West Ruislip portal in Hillingdon.

Josh Venes, who works for our main works contractor SCS (Skanska Costain Strabag Joint Venture), focuses on the activities taking place at the site, explaining what has been done to prepare the location, which is the point at which trains from the Midlands will transfer underground as they head towards Old Oak Common and onto Euston station.

He describes the piling and concrete works which are still to come and also discusses the launch chamber which needs to be built in order to set the Tunnel Boring Machines on their way to bore a 10-mile section of the Northolt tunnels. Josh also talks about working for SCS and HS2 and the opportunities it's given him in his career.
