News on HS2 in Hillingdon

Update on sheet piling works near the River Pinn

Following the works notification about piling works in the Hillingdon area that was previously sent out, we would like to update you on the current activity along the northern side of the Chiltern Line railway near the River Pinn.

We are carrying out sheet piling on the railway embankment adjacent to the River Pinn under the bridge which is progressing eastwards from the current location and will continue until early July. Our working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm and Saturday from 8am to 1pm.

Every effort is being made to ensure that this work is carried out in the least impactful way with various methods being used on site to minimise the disruption caused by these works. We are aware that with the warmer weather, people will be spending more time outside and therefore occasionally this work may be more noticeable. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this may cause. Noise and vibration monitoring will be conducted throughout to ensure works are managed effectively.

Sheet piles will be pushed into position using a hydraulic press. In the event that we find hard ground or obstacles, a vibrating hammer will be used for a short period of time to disturb the ground and drive the sheets through the hard ground. This will be more noticeable than press piling on its own and you may be able to feel this close to the work. Due to our proximity to the railway line, this is monitored very carefully to ensure that any vibration created will not cause any structural damage.

Dust suppression will be in place to reduce and manage the amount of dust generated by the work construction activities.
